After studying the physics behind cameras in college, I started getting interested in photography when I started hiking. Developing my artistic skill has been a rewarding venture, and enabled me to get a number of my photographs into art galleries and curated art shows, including having one of my photographs from Patagonia selected for a print exhibition in the Louvre. As I transitioned from film to digital, I also became curious about motion pictures, and ended up making a promotional video for a TEDx conference, an experience that got me hooked on cinematography. Since then I have shot over 40 short films and two feature films. Some of those have gotten festival awards, including Best Short, Best Director, and a nomination for Best Picture. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: SAUK MOUNTAIN ALPENGLOW
I had a free weekend, so I decided to head out to camp on top of a mountain in the Cascades. Since it was early July I was hoping to see lots of wildflowers and find a pleasant camp site for a relaxing night. On the way up the steep trail, switchback after switchback, the views kept getting better and there were wildflowers in bloom, but they were just getting started. Up on the summit however I found a lot of snow, nearly a meter thick. There were a few patches of bare grass with wildflowers blooming, but barely any place to camp other than on the nearly rock hard snow. I found one spot near a tree overlooking the valley, so I had a room with quite a few as well as quite a breeze. After a chilly night I awoke early as the sky began to brighten and got to see quite a few, as the valleys had filled with katabatic effect fog overnight which was rising as the sun warmed the air. This was one of the views that I found, of this majestic view looking over the jagged peak into the valley below.
