After studying the physics behind cameras in college, I started getting interested in photography when I started hiking. Developing my artistic skill has been a rewarding venture, and enabled me to get a number of my photographs into art galleries and curated art shows, including having one of my photographs from Patagonia selected for a print exhibition in the Louvre. As I transitioned from film to digital, I also became curious about motion pictures, and ended up making a promotional video for a TEDx conference, an experience that got me hooked on cinematography. Since then I have shot over 40 short films and two feature films. Some of those have gotten festival awards, including Best Short, Best Director, and a nomination for Best Picture. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: HOARY MARMOT ON SAUK MOUNTAIN
Having a free weekend in early July, I decided to head out to Sauk Mountain for the views and wildflowers. While ascending the steep series of switchbacks to the summit, I saw flowers starting to bloom in the meadows, and looked forward to more on the summit. However, upon reaching the summit, I saw that most of it was still under nearly a meter of snow, and there were just a few small patches of ground where the flowers were starting to bloom. I continued on, looking forward to the views and looked for a spot to pitch my tent. I found one of the few patches of ground available, and when I arrived I noticed a hoary marmot perched near the base of the tree munching away. I quietly set my pack down and got out my camera to get some photographs, and only got a few before another group arrived and scared the marmot away.
