I've always been a bit of an adventurer as well as being fascinated by the art and craft of photography. As a boy my folk hero was Daniel Boone. When on family camping trips I'd often go hiking where I'd allow my young imagination to run crazy with images of being an early colonial explorer blazing the way into the unknown wilderness. As an adult my activities have included hiking, kayaking, spelunking, wreck and cave diving and other adventurous outdoor experiences. I always feel drawn to see what lies down that old dirt road, hides behind the next hill, or awaits further down the river. It's been said I suffer severely from the Star Trek syndrome: 'To boldly go...' My photography is simply an extension of my thirst for knowledge, desire for adventure and drive to explore the natural world that surrounds us. It is my belief that my fine art photography comes from the perspective of someone connected to nature, rather than that of a casual observer. An award winning professional photographer making my home along North Carolina's Crystal Coast, my photos and articles have appeared in various local, regional and national publications. More recently I've been concentrating on wildlife, nature, avian, travel and adventure photography in and around the Carolinas. In a nutshell, I document the outdoors experience. My images often have a unique perspective as many are taken while kayaking, allowing for a point of view not frequently seen in nature photography. I am a former member of the Carolinas Nature Photography Association and, the Professional Photographers of America. My nature photography business, Carolina Footprints, can be found on the world wide web, Facebook and Instagram.

The remains of an old seawal juts out into Core Sound next to an abandoned fish processing plant in Atlantic North Carolina. This old structure once provide some protection for boats unloading and the plant dock. Today all that remains are a few pilings and rotting boards. Smyrna is a fishing village located in eastern Carteret county. This portion of the county is know as Downeast and consists of several old communities where the primary industry was commercial fishing. Known as the Crystal Coast most of the countys towns sit along the ocean or sound. While the marine fisheries industry was once the primary industry these days tourism is the primary focus. Activities such as sport fishing Scuba diving beach combing and ecotourism are popular with visitors. While the region is growing it is much less developed than the Outer Banks which are further up the coast.
