I am DD Hackley, by trade, I am a technical project manager in the Information Technology field. Based in the city of Philadelphia, I began painting on canvas in 2005. At the time, painting was a way for me to find solace from a stressful day. Self-taught by watching Bob Ross videos on Saturday morning on the local PBS channel and researching the different mediums, techniques, and tools that are used to create artwork that can transform your mood. I was on my way to a lifelong love for art.
Once I saw what could happen by adding paint to brush then to canvas, I began wanting to know and do more. I started with oil paint as a medium, and it remains my favorite medium. I then gradually started working with acrylics. My journey with acrylics has not been smooth, becoming familiar with the drying time of acrylics is an issue for me. Although, I have, over time, improved.
In my opinion, working with acrylics’ vibrant colors is worth the extra effort.
Watercolors have always been a medium I would like to try and master. But sadly, I have not.
I enjoy painting the colors of nature, the rich browns, golds, oranges, and reds, and especially the cool blues and greens.
Presently, I have been fascinated with fluid art. How the paint interacts with one another to create different levels of color and effects is perfect. I do subscribe to the belief that color can sway the thinking, change actions, and cause reactions.
