A migrating Twelve Spotted Dragon fly perches on the stem of a dead day lily plant. This particular mature male, indicated by the white spots, was spotted visiting our backyard pond in Pennsylvania. Our small pond is a popular spot for dragonflies and other small wildlife in the area. This is a front facing view that captures the head, hind and front legs, as well as the segmented thorax. This butterfly had three spots on each of it's four wings, hence it's name.
