ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: HAPPY FEET 00:11:06
This is a part of my movie series inspired by German artist Jan-Hendrik Pelz's series titled Favorites. For each painting I asked a family member or friend what their favourite movie was, and then after calculation the total number of seconds in the movie I would ask them to chose a random number within that range. I then used that number to select which frame of the film I would paint. I wanted to create this series for 2 main reasons, first to discover new movies (I have been watching each film as I paint it) and to give up some of the control that I like to have over my work by preventing me from choosing the subject matter. I intend to create a total of 30 pieces in this series. This scene came from Happy Feet directed by George Miller. This scene is 11 minutes and 6 seconds into the film. I expected this painting to come together quite easily because it is an animated movie and the subjects aren't human, however it proved to be much more difficult than anticipated thanks to the vast number of penguins in the background.
